Stroke Matrix Membership Info

Stroke Centers are required to maintain current certification with one of these entities to retain membership in the AEMS Stroke Matrix. There are 3 categories of membership recognized by AEMS:

Provisional Member (PM)

Non-Member (NM) Info

  • Non-member health care facilities do not appear on the AEMS Stroke Matrix, nor do they receive diverted stroke patients via
  • NM health care facilities may participate in general PSSC meetings but are excluded from confidential discussions of hospital

Provisional Member (PM) Info

  • Provisional (PM) membership provides a process for new Stroke Centers to develop A health care facility is deemed to be PM once the completed application for Stroke Center certification has been accepted by one of the certifying entities, and a timeframe for the formal on-site certification survey has been established.
  • PSSC makes the recommendation for Provisional status to AEMS, but AEMS must accept that recommendation before the Stroke Matrix reflects that change and EMS traffic is diverted
  • All PMs participate in the AEMS Stroke Matrix and receive diverted stroke patients via EMS. To the EMS providers in the field there is no distinction between PM or FM
  • PM participate in confidential discussions of hospital data.
  • PMs are required to submit more frequent data for review than FM and follow a defined process to become a FM facility.

Full Member (FM) Info

  • All FM participate in the AEMS Stroke Matrix and receive diverted stroke patients via EMS. There is no distinction between PM or FM designations to EMS providers in the field.
  • The criteria for Full Member status are (a) certification by one of the accepted certifying entities (TJC, DNV, HFAP), and (b) two contiguous quarters of data deemed acceptable by the Data-Evaluation Group (DEG).
  • FM submit annual mean, aggregate data for annual group review.
